One of my best friends had BPD, and, after several years in and out of hospital and a few abortive attempts at getting a job, ended up on a permanent disability allowance. Do you remember when I said earlier that I thought he had Borderline Personality Disorder? He's exhibited enough of the other symptoms of it in your post there to confirm it, in my mind at least. And if his doctor really is as clueless as you describe then I am not at all surprised that they never picked it up. He needs a proper psychiatrist. You need to get out of this relationship NOW.
